The Demoman is the thrawn-yet-tremendous maister o' explosives. His strength is juist a bittie weaker than a Soldier, but far mair powerful than maist classes due tae his firepower.

The Demoman is voiced by Heavy's voice actor Gary Schwartz.

A fierce temper, a fascination wi' aw things explosive, an' a terrible plan tae kill the Loch Ness Monster cost the six year auld Demoman his original set o' adoptive parents. Later, back at the Crypt Grammar School for Orphans near Ullapool in the Scottish Highlands, the lad's bomb-makin' skills improved dramatically. His disposition an' total number o' intact eyeballs, however, didnae.

Demoman's Association[]

The Demoman, also known as Tavish Finnegan DeGroot, is easily recognized in Team Fortress 2 by his team-colored Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) suit, skull-cap, and eyepatch. Armed with two grenade launchers, one firing 'dumbfire' bouncing pipebomb-like explosives, and the other known as the StickyBomb Launcher, which shoots spiny Stickybombs. His default melee weapon seems to be a half-finished bottle of Scotch, whiskey, or rum, humorously referred to as his "Bottle o' Scrumpy." Additionally, he wields a sword called the "Eyelander," which can be combined with the Tide Turner. When using the Tide Turner, right-clicking while equipped charges the Demoman in the direction they're facing, potentially decapitating enemies upon a kill. However, this comes with the downside of replacing the stickybomb slot, preventing sticky jumping while charging.

In the Valve promotional video "Meet the Demoman," he describes himself as a "black, Scottish cyclops" with a certain amount of despair. Similar to the Soldier's Rocket Jump, the Demoman can perform a maneuver known as 'Bomb-Jump' by firing a Stickybomb into the ground, running towards it, and detonating it mid-jump. If executed correctly, this explosion propels the Demoman upwards and forwards.

General Tactics[]

As a Demoman, your role isn't necessarily to be the most offensive class, but rather to excel in area denial, blocking off crucial pathways or corridors to make enemies think twice before advancing. You shine in blocking off areas such as control points or intelligence locations. However, when on the offense, it's wise to have your teammates backing you up. Your Grenade Launcher can force enemies to retreat, and your Stickybombs are excellent anti-Sentry weapons when utilized effectively.

Do's:

  • You can detonate your Stickybombs even without wielding your Stickybomb Launcher. Exploit this to your advantage.
  • If you hear "Sentry ahead," take action. You can take out a level 3 Sentry with your grenades. Use the environment to your advantage, bouncing grenades off walls to hit the Sentry if it's positioned near one.
  • Utilize your Bottle if enemies get too close. Prevent accidental self-inflicted damage by switching to your melee weapon when in close-quarters combat.
  • Strategically place your Stickybombs in less obvious locations to catch enemies off guard.
  • When using the Scottish Resistance, remember that only the bombs in your field of view will detonate. This can be used tactically.
  • With the Eyelander, you can deal heavy damage, particularly when paired with the Chargin' Targe.

Don't's:

  • Don't linger around inactive points where enemies are unlikely to appear. Instead, focus on areas where you can make a difference, eliminating multiple enemies at once.
  • Avoid prematurely detonating your Stickybombs. Timing is crucial, as detonating too early or too late can render your efforts ineffective.
  • Refrain from playing as artillery. While it may seem fun, it's not productive for the team. Get closer to your enemies for better accuracy and impact.
  • Don't charge into battle alone. Stick with your teammates for support, as you're more effective when working together.

General Tips:

  • Don't forget about your Bottle. It's a useful melee weapon in close combat situations.
  • Leave bomb jumping to skilled players. Improper execution can lead to unnecessary damage and risk.
  • Maintain awareness of your surroundings, focusing on both avoiding enemy fire and monitoring your Stickybombs.

Additional Tips:

  • Make extensive use of your launcher. Your Grenade Launcher is your primary weapon, capable of dealing significant damage.
  • Utilize Stickybomb traps to decimate groups of enemies, as demonstrated in the 'Meet the Demoman' video.
  • Be cautious not to lay down too many Stickybombs at once, as exceeding your limit will cause older bombs to explode.
  • Regularly reload your Grenade Launcher to ensure you're always ready for combat.
  • Clear rooms using your grenades, taking advantage of their powerful explosive capabilities.
  • Engage enemies at close range, where your weapons are most effective, and avoid prolonged battles with long-range classes like the Sniper and Soldier.
  • Experiment with Stickybomb jumping to access otherwise inaccessible areas.

Trivia:

  • The Demoman, Medic, and Engineer are the only classes with fully revealed names.
  • MONOCULUS! represents the Demoman's lost eye.
  • The Demoman's Eyelander is possessed, yet it still befriends him.
  • Gary Schwartz, the voice actor for the Heavy, also voices the Demoman.
  • Originally, the Demoman was depicted with pale skin and red hair but was later changed to a black Scottish character for differentiation and originality.
  • The Demoman's body has adapted to his alcoholic lifestyle, capable of distilling alcohol from bone marrow and consuming harmful substances without adverse effects.

I hate this class' achievements. - HPoisoned
